Gone are the days where the humble tablet's presence had us confused: is it a smartphone or is it a computer? We've leant into the lightweight and portable iPad's perks of easy transportation, the ability to watch our favourite shows and films on a bigger screen than that of our smartphone, as well as connect with friends and family via video calls. We're big fans of the Apple iPad, and have recommended it in guides such as the best tablets for older people, and now, we've found you some top savings on it, too.

The RadioTimes.com Technology team are in the business of getting you the best deal on the products you want, and we search a range of reputable retailers to make sure the deal we're suggesting has the biggest saving. For example, we scrolled through the likes of Currys, Very, AO, Amazon, and John Lewis to see which retailer had the best deal on the Apple iPad Mini (2021), and found that Very and Amazon came out on top.

Plus, we like to recommend products to you that the Technology team have hands-on tested, such as the Apple iPad Mini review and Apple iPad (2021) review – this is so you can be sure you're buying a decent piece of tech that is cost-effective in that it's durable and comes jam-packed with features that makes it worth the price tag. We know that tech gifts often come with a hefty price-point so it's important you're getting the most for your money.

Why we chose it: In the Technology team's iPad (2021) review, we liked it for its extensive features, such as multitasking abilities like Split View and Centre Window which allows you to see all of your tasks at a glance while also prioritising certain jobs, which punch well above its entry-level price point. We also liked its slim and lightweight design, as well as the ease of set-up, particularly for existing Apple customers, which makes it a great option for older family members.

Should I wait to buy an iPad until Black Friday?

Typically, Black Friday is the best time of the year to shop for big-ticket items such as home appliances, smart TVs, smartphones, and gaming PCs and headsets, while Cyber Monday is great for smaller tech items such as hair and beauty appliances, and gifts. So we would recommend shopping for iPads in the Black Friday sales.

One thing to keep in mind, however, is that although a lot of Black Friday sales have already started, it isn't actual Black Friday until Friday 24th November. So, should you wait until then to buy an iPad?

We've seen some fantastic offers across a range of UK retailers on various iPad models, from the iPad Pro to the iPad Air, and the biggest saving we've seen so far is £100.99 off an iPad Pro (2nd gen) — a great discount on an expensive product. This RadioTimes.com writer has gone deep into our archives to compare the savings we've seen this year so far to actual Black Friday 2022, and has found that Black Friday 2022 provided us with £100 off the iPad Air, £60 off the 2021 iPad, and £170 off the iPad Mini, which is slightly better than the offers we've seen so far.

We'd recommend that if you've seen a deal you're happy with on an iPad you've been looking at for a little while, go for it! It's possible that the iPad's price will drop on actual Black Friday, but it's also possible that it might sell out at your preferred retailer.

What's the difference between an iPad and an iPad Air?

The main two differences between the standard Apple iPad and the Apple iPad Air is that the iPad Air looks sleeker, thinner and more modern, but it's also more expensive. We've dived a little more into the specs for you below.

The 2020 and 2022 iPad Air models come in the following dimensions: 247.6mm in height, 178.5mm in width, and have a thickness of 6.1mm. Both iPad Air models come with two storage sizes: 64GB and 256GB, as well as two Wi-Fi options: Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi cellular.

A front camera and back camera are features of the iPad Air, and the design is thin, lightweight, and modern. At the moment, you can buy the Apple iPad Air from as little as £629 at Very.

With the standard iPad, we love how accessible the tablet is; the iPad has the same chipset as the iPad Pro, and we found the performance and user experience was fantastic. However, in our iPad 2022 release date page, we thought the design had some catching up to do in comparison to the modern-looking iPad Air.

You can currently buy the iPad for as little as £319 at Currys.

What's the difference between an iPad and an iPad Pro?

The iPad Pro is the most expensive model in the iPad series, and we've broken down how it differs to the standard iPad.

The iPad Pro truly is the best of the best in the Apple iPad series, just a few of its notable benefits are: it's lightning fast, brilliant for working and for creative tasks, vibrant display, easy to set up, user accessibility is top-notch, and the Apple Pencil increases your productivity.

At the moment, you can get £99.01 off the iPad Pro (2022) with 128GB storage, plus Wi-Fi and Cellular.

Buy the iPad Pro (2022) for £1,429 £1,329.99 (save £99.01 or 7%) at Very

While the iPad Pro is the fastest, most powerful iPad ever made, you should consider whether what you're wanting to use your tablet for actually requires that much power. If you're planning on getting rid of your laptop and work exclusively on an iPad, then opt for the iPad Pro. If you're hoping to communicate with loved ones via video call and watch your favourite shows on a streaming service, then maybe shop for the standard iPad.

In our iPad Pro 2021 review we said that Apple has thrown its very best technology at the device to appeal to a (smaller) audience that will truly appreciate the increase in power, speed and functionality that accompanies the high price tag. This may not be you, and that's fine! There are plenty of fantastic iPad deals to be had.
