Announced way back in 2017, the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora release date has now been confirmed. Best of all, it'll be in our hands before the end of the year!

The game, based on James Cameron's Avatar film series, lets us see the world of Pandora through the eyes of the Na'vi (literally, the game is first person). It's also open world and lets us explore the expanses of the Western Frontier, which is pretty darn exciting. Who doesn't want to explore the rich world of Pandora?

We'll be able to fly on a Banshee (or Ikran), leap of cliffs, and ride a Direhorse to get around the colourful landscapes. It's all there to help us fight against the RDA.

If all of that sounds good for you, read on below for the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora release date and find out where to pre-order.

When is the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora release date?

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will release on the 7th December this year.

This doesn't seem to be coinciding with a film release, so there won't be any confusion about it being a movie tie-in.

If you'd rather pre-order digitally, you'll need to head to the digital storefront of your choice.

What platforms can I get Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora on?

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Sorry PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch players, it looks like you won't be joining in on the Avatar fun this time.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora story and gameplay

Rather than being a straight retelling of the Avatar 2 film hit cinemas last year, this game will be a standalone story set in the world of Avatar - which should mean the creators were given some much-needed creative freedom.

The player will take control of a Na’vi raised by the RDA, who fought against her own tribe after being captured and indoctrinated as a child. After the RDA leave Pandora, our protagonist rejoins the Na’vi clans to fight against the RDA when they return. In order to regain their trust after being an outsider for so long, she has to reconnect with her Na’vi heritage.

It's worth checking out the official gameplay trailer to see how it all works in action:

The gameplay looks vaguely similar(ish) to another Ubisoft open world game: Far Cry. It does look like it captures the elements that made the original film so popular by putting you in the shoes of a Na'vi and being able to explore Pandora's bright and colourful world.

What's more, you'll be able to play the game in two-player online co-op!
